Some may argue that up within the greatest cinematic moments of all time sits Quentin Tarantino’s pulpfiction, Steven Spielberg’s jurassic-park and potentially even Ridley Scott’s bladerunner. However, I beg to differ as Mark Waters’ freaky friday with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan will forever be groundbreaking in my eyes. And, well, if you disagree, I (or Ms. Lee Curtis for that matter) have one thing to say: “could you like, chill for a sec?”.
Now, fulfilling my fantasy of keeping the 2003 classic alive is the newly-introduced Rhode skincare founder, Hailey Bieber. Can I get a whoop whoop? In her most recent Beauty Tips & Tricks YouTube video, the social media sensation is swapping beauty routines with celebrity hairstylist, Jen Atkin. As Hails says, it’s “Freaky Friday beauty style”… minus the crypt keeper look… IYKYK.
The model starts off by doing her signature “flick of the wrist style wave” on Jen. But before going in with any heated hair tools, she preps the hair by adding a few spritzes of the OUAI Heat Protection Spray, £25, which is Jen’s very own founded haircare brand.
Then, Hailey goes in “section by section” waving the hair in an S-shape pattern with the Dyson Corrale Cordless Straightener, £399.99.
Providing us with plenty ‘a tip and trick, Jen says that the best way to avoid dents in the hair when straightening is to not clamp down so hard and to keep a loose wrist “almost like you’re playing tennis”. Basically, just channel your inner Serena Williams.
Adding to this, when building up the hair with a texturing or finishing spray, Jen recommends flipping your head upside down and gently backcombing to add volume.
With the hair done, the two move on to skincare and Jen carries out her routine on Hailey. Now, unfortunately for us Brits, Rhode skincare (Hailey’s brand and the majority of products used from here on out) is not yet available in the UK but I’m keeping my fingers (and toes!) crossed for it to launch here soon.
After adding layers of hydration to the skin, Jen explains that she likes to use face massaging tools which are good for blood flow and collagen production. The two mentioned are the Shani Darden Facial Sculpting Wand, £364 and the NuFACE Trinity Wrinkle Reducer, £121.60.
“Red light is good for inflammation, anti-aging and acne,” Hailey says.
Next up (we’re nearly finished, I promise) is the Summer Fridays Heavenly Sixteen all-in-one Face Oil, £53, which Hails says she You see it for her classic glazed donut look.
Finally, after drenching her lips in balm before bed, Jen likes to use the Kylie Skin Clarifying Patches, £16, which as Hailey shares: “sucks everything out”. Oh, and by everything, she means all that good stuff a pimple exudes. Nice.
And there we have it, Hailey and Jen’s hair and skincare routines as demonstrated on each other!
